the startling surprise of met expectations

we saw 'year of the dog' last night and it was amazing (if you don't believe me, read the ny times review). it's the first time in years that i remember walking out of a theater and having to think about how red-rimmed my eyes were from crying. it's not a tearjerker, per se, but there is something about the movie, its message and a seriously amazing performance by molly shannon that all just conspired to get the three of us who saw it a-weepin'. highly recommended, and one of the only times i can remember that a movie for which i had such high expectations actually met them.
